Mata Community.
The Mata School Community is a predominantly farming community, but forestry has become established in our region. Whilst the forestry has brought a lot of employment to the region, many workers choose to travel from their place of residence to work each day. Thus the Mata road is well travelled not only by heavy logging vehicles, but also worker vehicles.
While the road is a public road, private vehicles are encouraged to carry a radio to make travelling the road as safe as possible.
The schools unique location make it a pivotal focus for the region, and the schools Bi-annual Fund-raising venture is well supported by locals and the farms, whilst the participants arrive from areas beyond the Tairawhiti region, such is its popularity amongst the 4 Wheel Drive community.
